STUDIO

FOR STUDENTS, TEACHERS & CURIOUS THINKERS

a 4 week course where you actually learn how to "engage" with a text and say something about it.

NO PRESSURE. NO ESSAYS. NO SHUFFLING YOUR SCHEDULE.

-  REGULAR PRICE $129 STARTING AUGUST 2 -

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING

This isn't a course about writing better essays. It's a course about becoming the kind of reader who naturally has better essays to write.

Most writing courses teach you what an essay should look like. This studio teaches you what strong writers do before they sit down to write.

Each week, we'll read an essay together, make observations, and gradually shape those thoughts into insightful statements.

You'll watch me think through a text in real time, learn practical thinking tools and reading habits you can bring to any text, and leave with a completely different way of approaching conversations, writing assignments and essays.

THIS ISN'T YOUR TYPICAL WRITING COURSE

You read something but aren't sure what to say about it

You understand what you read, but don't have anything interesting to say after you've finished

You've been told you need to
explain more, elaborate more or be more critical

You'd like to become a more observant reader, a more confident writer and more willing participant in conversations (in & outside the classroom)

Most students think writing starts with the words on the paper. It actually starts with the thoughts in your head.

LET'S ANSWER SOME

F A Q

Not sure if this is right for you?

LET'S CLEAR A FEW THINGS UP

I haven't done any of your other tutorials. Is this a good place to start?

Who is this for?

Can I keep the lesson videos and class materials after the course?

It depends what you're looking for.

OOPS! focuses on developing a set of thinking habits that help you interpret what you read so you have ideas worth sharing in your writing. If you want specific essay help, like crafting a thesis statement or developing research skills, then this is not the course for you.

  • university / college students

  • over-thinkers

  • students who have been told to "explain" their ideas more

  • people wanting to develop their critical thinking skills

  • anyone who struggles with having something to say after reading a text

Yep. You have unlimited access to all class materials.

Sometimes it's nice to be able to come back to a lesson or a thought a few months later. I get it - and encourage you to.

I'm not a strong reader. Will I be able to handle this course and keep up?

Is this class helpful for dissertation writing?

Most likely.

I've kept the reading quite limited - about 30 mins. per week. Because, the goal is not to "read more," it's to think more. And, unless you want to be active in the discussion room, you can work throught the class at your own pace.

It *depends.*

OOPS! won't teach the structure or conventions of a dissertation (lit review/methodology/results). It's focused on the thinking that comes before the writing - developing ideas, making meaningful observations, and moving beyond summary.

Is this only for writing better essays?

Nope.

This class isn't really about essay writing. It's about developing the thinking habits that are used in analyzing, interpreting and engaging with a text.
